History

Origins

The story of The Ranch at Birch Creek begins in 1911, when Christian Hansen Frederiksen, a Danish immigrant, settled here with a vision for family and farmland. For decades, the land was alive with work, gatherings, and the quiet rhythms of ranch life. As time passed, the ranch sat quiet—slowly weathered by years of neglect, its history waiting to be renewed.

In 2007, the Marshall family rediscovered the property and saw its promise beyond the disrepair. With respect for its past, they began restoring the property: rebuilding the barn and water tower, and carefully lifting the old farmhouse to place it on a new foundation. Their goal was simple—honor its original character while making it feel beautifully livable for today. Now, the Ranch stands renewed yet rooted. It is a place where history and modern hospitality meet, and where every guest is invited to feel at home.

Award-Winning Orchards

Planted in 2013, our olive trees are an integral part of the landscape—and the experience—at The Ranch at Birch Creek. Today, over 700 trees make up the estate grove, producing a clean, filtered extra virgin olive oil using sustainable practices and six carefully selected varietals.

Our first harvest in 2017 became our signature Estate Blend, earning a gold medal from the California Olive Oil Council. The orchard is both a point of passion and a reflection of what we value: thoughtful cultivation, nature, and the time it takes to create something truly beautiful.
